Twas the night before U-Pick

By Divinity Dodge

Twas the night before U-Pick,
And all through the garden
Some plants were ready for harvest,
Others still needed to harden.
Seeds were sown in the garden rows with care,
In hope that organic veggies would grow there.
The community nestled all snug in their beds
As visions of fava beans danced in their heads.
Row cover was removed, we peeled off burlap,
The garden is growing after a long winter’s nap!
With a little compost, seedlings shot up so quick,
We knew in that moment, it was time for U-Pick
More rapid than radish, time for harvest came,
We danced and we shouted the variety names
“Now Lancer Parsnip, now! Rudi Radish, now! Now Neptune Leeks,
“On! Cosmic Carrot, on! Serrano Pepper, on! On, Boston Beets”
Fresh local produce is finally in sight
Happy U-Pick to all, and to all a good night!

Farm at Waters Edge U-Pick opens on Tuesday June 4th. Open daily from dawn to dusk. Harvestable crops at this time include radishes and lettuce with more to come as the growing season continues. We hope to see you here!

We also have farm fresh eggs available, that will be out in a cooler next to our U-Pick station. (First come, first serve as we have limited quantities available. Suggested donation for ½ dozen duck eggs is $4, and 1 dozen chicken eggs $6). Cash donations, please. (-:

Thank you to all our volunteers who have attended garden work parties through the rain and chill of the fall and winter. May we celebrate the fruits of our labor (literally) this summer by eating delicious local organic produce.

Can’t get enough farm? Don’t worry, we are seeking new and returning volunteers to help us maintain our U-Pick gardens. Click on the volunteer button so see upcoming garden work parties and sign ups!
