The Little Quilcene River flows into Quilcene Bay just north of the town of Quilcene. Nearly one hundred years ago this river was channeled directly into Quilcene Bay and a substantial amount of fill was placed behind the dike disrupting natural estuarine function. This project restored over 25 acres of the Little Quilcene River estuarine habitat. During August of 2008, 2,200 feet of dike was removed, and over 800 feet of the river was re-configured within a historic channel location. Six acres of riparian habitat were also replanted.
