Seasonal Maintenance Specialist

  • Duration: June – October 2026
  • Variable Hours: 26-32 hrs per week, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Compensation: $17.13/hr
  • Supervision: Position reports to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager

Position Summary: The Maintenance Specialist supports HCSEG’s mission by assisting the Facilities and Maintenance Manager in maintaining the Salmon Center facility and ensuring that vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well cared for. This position performs grounds, vehicle, and equipment maintenance and collaborates with the Facilities and Maintenance Manager and other HCSEG staff to prepare facilities and public spaces for special events and activities. Working across the organization’s 38-acre certified organic farm and public open spaces, the Maintenance Specialist helps create safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environments that advance HCSEG’s mission and goals.

Typical Duties Include:

● Assisting with routine maintenance of the facilities, equipment and vehicles;
● Assistance with maintenance and troubleshooting facility irrigation system
● Assisting with coordination of the completion of complex repairs;
● Grounds maintenance;
● Participate in HCSEG Safety Committee meetings once monthly;
● Assisting with daily monitoring and periodic/seasonal maintenance of the Union River Preserve trail system;
● Perform field work as needed to support research and restoration staff;
● Work with volunteers to complete special projects;
● Perform tasks needed to support other HCSEG staff;
● Other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Willingness to learn skills related to vehicle, equipment and building maintenance
  2. Good written and verbal communication abilities
  3. Organized, self-motivated and strong attention to detail
  4. Diplomatic problem-solving skills
  5. Good-natured team player, comfortable working with diverse groups of people
  6. Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  7. Access to personal vehicle for transportation to and from the Salmon Center Facility
  8. Safe driving record
  9. Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol background check

Desired Skills or Demonstrated Interests:

● Interest in the environment and sustainability
● Experience working with volunteers and non-profit organizations
