Development Director

  • Start: May 2026
  • Full-Time: Monday-Friday 40 hours per week, some evenings and weekends
  • Salary and Benefits: Compensation will range between $60,000 and $80,000 and be dependent upon experience. Those applicants with desired skills and demonstrated interest will be compensated accordingly. Benefits include personal time off, holiday, medical, dental and vision. This is a hybrid position with a generous amount of flexibility.
  • Supervision: Position reports to the Executive Director.

HCSEG is growing, and we’re looking for a passionate, strategic, and relationship-driven Development Director to help take our impact to the next level. This is a new position designed to strengthen and expand our fundraising efforts, build meaningful partnerships, and help sustain the vital work we do for salmon and our local ecosystems.

Position Summary: The Development Director (DD) supports HCSEG’s mission by successful development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan that achieves measurable income growth annually through the following existing programs: annual fund, major and planned gifts, annual membership drive, as well as programs developed in the future. The DD is accountable for identifying, evaluating, cultivating and soliciting philanthropic support, as well as creating a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

All members of the HCSEG staff work collaboratively with other staff across program and project areas and are expected to use their unique skills and abilities to jointly further the mission of the organization. The DD will report to the Executive Director.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to carry out the mission and objectives of the organization
  • Create, implement, and oversee the organization’s annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee of the Board using Community-Centric Fundraising Principles;
    – Identify and oversee opportunities for the Organization to receive unrestricted funding through various funding streams that advance the mission and help achieve program goals
    – Establish protocols and timeline for prospecting, identifying, soliciting, cultivating and stewarding prospective donors
    – Establish, track, and regularly evaluate key metrics (e.g., partner interactions, acquisition rates, investment opportunities) to assess progress, inform course corrections, and refine engagement strategies
  • Regularly collaborate with the HCSEG Board of Directors Fundraising Committee as necessary to achieve organization fundraising goals and objectives and execute
  • Create and execute an event plan to engage potential donors and influencers
  • Cultivate and maintain direct and indirect relationships with individual donors, corporate and community leaders, public and private organizations, and foundations
  • Facilitate meetings with potential donors and organizations for management and board members
  • Attend events to foster relationships that support the mission, culture, and core values
  • Assist the Executive Director in the revision/enhancement of the organizational strategy
  • Accurately track all strategic donor interactions, opportunities, and progress in HCSEG’s donor database (currently Little Green Light) to support the shared organizational strategy
  • Strategically leverage organizational assets and activities, such as project sites and field operations, to design and curate meaningful engagement opportunities for donors. The intention is to deliver unique experiences to strengthen donors’ sense of shared purpose and connection to our mission and impact.
  • Assist the Communications Manager in the creation of regular communications with organization membership, donors, and constituencies; contribute development content for the O’Fishal Newsletter articles, Executive Director communications to the Board and community, as well as annual reports
  • Responsible for development budget preparation and reporting
  • Regularly communicate progress to staff, board, partners, landowners, and community
  • Oversee the engagement of donors and sponsors throughout the year through small events and regular communications
  • Market the Salmon Center Property as an event venue with the goal of generating unrestricted revenue for the organization

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum education: A Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong team leader with proven ability to motivate others
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative strategic partnerships
  • Experience interacting effectively with Board members, volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors and staff at all levels
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and the use of AI
  • Excellent planner, detail-oriented, organized, energetic and an innovative strategic thinker
  • Embraces autonomy and is highly entrepreneurial. Demonstrates a relentless pursuit for continual improvement
  • Demonstrates strong verbal communications skills and an ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Is a true “team player”; able to work in a small office environment that demands teamwork and transparency while maintaining flexibility to occasionally take on special projects
  • Knowledge of utilization of information systems to support fund raising activities
  • Experience writing grants and receiving grant funding
  • Understands tracking and filing of campaign pledge documentation and has working knowledge of and adheres to systems/controls established by auditors’ standards
  • Experience with establishing systems/templates/forms e.g. basic procedures and expectations regarding events checklists, contacts with donors
  • Access to personal vehicle, current valid driver’s license and insurance and the ability to work evenings and weekends when required
