A hearty "thank you" to the volunteers who came out on a drizzly Monday morning to help us with planting along Sweetwater Creek! With about 15 people we put in more than 150 plants to provide shade, bank stabilization, and improved habitat.

The cool rainy day was simply perfect planting weather, and all of the digging areas were covered in straw to keep dirt out of the Creek.

We know that it will take us at least another year to conquer the knotweed in the area, but we are making great progress in returning Sweetwater Creek to a healthy state!

The planting was a joint effort of the Salmon Center and the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group. Plants were donated by the Hood Canal Coordinating Council, Mason County Master Gardners, a private party, and WSDOT. The Mason County Conservation District helped out with lots of advice and lending us shovels.
The group was rewarded with barbequed burgers, served up by Chef Julie!
