The purpose of the Wild Salmon Hall of Fame is to honor and celebrate individuals and/or teams who have demonstrated over time actions that have inspired and which continue to guide a passion for the preservation and recovery of abundant and diverse Wild Salmon populations throughout the Pacific Northwest. (Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho)

Criteria:

  1. Demonstrates a passion for Wild Salmon either in their career or volunteer work
  2. Enhances public knowledge and appreciation of Wild Salmon
  3. Creates a tangible, measurable outcome such as a book, artwork, event, or significant project, etc.
  4. Fosters a positive influence in their profession or the community.

The Salmon Center has seen a lot of change in the last 2 years. In 2008 we finalized the property purchase on Hood Canal. We worked steadily through 2009 to renovate the new space and relocate our offices to the site. Due to our stretched resources, we decided to postpone the 2009 Wild Salmon Hall of Fame. Now that 2010 is here we are ready to recommence the celebration!

We are now at our new location and this year will be the first Wild Salmon Hall of Fame to be held on the site. We have deviated from our usual method of choosing an award recipient as we feel now is the time to honor one of the men who made the Salmon Center possible. Dr. Al Adams will be the 2010 Hall of Fame award recipient.

It has always been a dream of Al's to hold a first salmon celebration at the Salmon Center. This year we are making that vision a reality. We are working with the Skokomish tribe to bring a traditional salmon celebration and ceremony to the Hood Canal.

The salmon celebration and ceremony by the Skokomish tribe will run from 11am- 3pm and will include:

  • Catered meal featuring traditionally barbequed salmon and other traditional foods (fee per person meal only)
  • Interactive tuwaduq Song and Dance: Everyone gets to participate!
  • Youth drum group
  • Traditional Dugout Canoe Excursion: All ages, All abilities!!
  • Experience Our Culture through Our Art: Basket Weaving, 2 and 3 dimensional carving, Fiber Weaving and gathering natural dyes.
  • Storytelling and Historical presentation (tentatively entitled, 10,000 Years of Living with this Land
  • What We are Doing Now: Skokomish Natural Resources
  • And more...

A more formal Wild Salmon Hall of Fame award presentation will follow as a separate evening event from 5:00 - 7:00pm. This evening ceremony will be dedicated to the celebration and appreciation of Dr. Al Adams and all he has done for Wild Salmon restoration and recovery over the past 30 years. Seating will be limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations can be made by calling 360-275-2763.
