The Salmon Center has seen a lot of change in the last 2 years. In 2008 we finalized the property purchase on Hood Canal. We worked steadily through 2009 to renovate the new space and relocate our offices to the site. Due to our stretched resources, we decided to postpone the 2009 Wild Salmon Hall of Fame. However, in 2010 we were ready to recommence the celebration and held the first Wild Salmon Hall of Fame on our new site. We had deviated from our usual method of choosing an award recipient as we felt it was now time to honor one of the men who made the Salmon Center possible. Dr. Al Adams was the 2010 Hall of Fame award recipient.
It has always been a dream of Al's to hold a first salmon celebration at the Salmon Center. 2010 made that vision a reality. We worked with the Skokomish tribe to bring a traditional salmon celebration and ceremony to the Hood Canal.
The salmon celebration and ceremony by the Skokomish tribe included:
- Catered meal featuring traditionally barbequed salmon and other traditional foods
- Interactive tuwaduq Song and Dance
- Youth drum group
- Traditional Dugout Canoe Excursion
- Basket Weaving, 2 and 3 dimensional carving, Fiber Weaving and gathering natural dyes.
- Storytelling and Historical presentation
- And more!
